💧 The Story Behind the Artwork

Take a journey to New Zealand’s rushing mountain streams with Whio Stream, a hand-drawn tribute to the whio (blue duck), Aotearoa’s rare, river-loving native.

Drawn with a single ballpoint pen, this piece captures the fluid movement of the water and the subtle strength of the whio, a bird perfectly adapted to fast-flowing alpine torrents. With strong legs and sharp claws, whio cling to slippery rocks as they forage, often blending seamlessly into the stony surrounds.

Here, I’ve worked to express both the duck’s camouflage and the sparkle of the stream, a moment of stillness within nature’s energy.
