🌿 The Story Behind the Artwork
The takahē, once thought extinct, is a symbol of resilience and rarity in Aotearoa. I wanted to capture its strength and presence through a close portrait, focusing on its distinctive features and expression. The Murchison Mountains, the only place where takahē survived in the wild for decades, were a strong source of inspiration, grounding the work in both the bird’s history and the rugged, remote landscape that sheltered it.
