🌿 The Story Behind the Artwork
Weka are full of character. Curious, confident, and just a little suspicious, they always seem to be sizing you up. Their movements are slow and deliberate, as if they've already decided they're in charge of the situation.

I've been lucky enough to see more weka in the Eglinton Valley over the last few years, including adults foraging with their chicks. They never fail to make me smile. On one occasion, while I was working in the forest, I turned around to find a weka happily stealing a piece of string from my backpack. Apparently, if it's loose and portable, it's worth investigating!
