🌿 The Story Behind the Artwork
The sacred kingfisher is one of my favourite New Zealand birds. I love its brilliant colours, its oversized beak, and the patient way it sits watching the world before suddenly diving into action.
Every now and then I'm lucky enough to spot a kingfisher nesting in a hollow tree, and I always enjoy those encounters. They're such charismatic birds, and this portrait was my attempt to capture some of that character on paper.
