🌿 The Story Behind the Artwork
Silvereye captures one of those fleeting moments - when a flock of these tiny birds arrives, chattering and shimmering among the leaves. Drawn in graphite, this piece celebrates their lively presence and delicate beauty.
Also known as waxeyes, silvereyes are small, social birds that first arrived in New Zealand in the 1800s, likely carried by strong Tasman winds. They quickly made this country home, thriving in gardens and forests alike. I love watching them visit my garden in flocks, gulping down fruit and bringing a sense of cheerful motion to the trees.
