🌿 The Story Behind the Artwork

Alpine Mist was inspired by time spent hiking in Fiordland's alpine landscape. I was drawn to the stunted vegetation and the distinctly different plant life that replaces the dense lowland forest as you climb higher. Shaped by wind, rain, and harsh conditions, these plants have a quiet resilience that I wanted to capture.

Drawn in fine black ink, this piece was also an opportunity to experiment with depicting mist using ink alone. Rather than hiding the landscape, the drifting mist softens and reveals it in layers, creating the calm, atmospheric feeling I experienced while walking through these mountains.
