Forest Care is part of my hand series, exploring the relationship between people and the natural world through moments of holding, protecting, and appreciating the forests around us.
In this artwork, a hand gently cradles a living fragment of New Zealand’s native forest, a reminder that these places are precious and that their future depends on the choices we make. Within the intricate layers of foliage, a hidden bird rests among ferns, young lancewood, rimu, kāmahi, and towering southern red beech, representing the diversity and resilience found within our forests.
Created entirely in black ballpoint pen over 36 hours, this drawing was built slowly and deliberately, with each line adding depth, texture, and life to the forest contained within the hand.
Through detailed observation and imagination, Forest Care invites the viewer to pause and consider our connection with the natural world, not as something separate from us, but something we are part of and responsible for caring for.
Created from an original ballpoint pen drawing, Forest Care is available as a fine art giclée print, preserving the intricate linework and detail of the original artwork.
Size: 43 × 54 cm artwork size
(with a generous white border for flexible framing)
Printed using archival pigment inks on premium fine art paper to preserve the depth, texture, and detail of the original drawing.
Each print is individually signed by the artist and carefully packaged for safe delivery.
