After creating many bird portraits, I wanted to explore a different kind of native wildlife and was drawn to the unique textures, shades, and character of the jewelled gecko. The pose and surrounding foliage are imagined, capturing the quiet beauty of a creature that often remains hidden within New Zealand’s forests.
Originally drawn at A3 size to allow for fine detail, this artwork celebrates the smaller and often overlooked species that make Aotearoa’s natural world so unique.
